Get Out of Jail Free in Jasper County

"You're free to go...for free." Music to the ears of every habitual repeat criminal. Now, in Missouri, getting arrested is just a minor inconvenience, or “bump in the road”. A few days in jail getting fed, clothed, making new contacts, learning new scams, then released at no cost to them, WOW, what a deal!! 

Own Recognizance (OR) or Pre-trial Release. For criminals, what a great deal they have going on here in our own Jasper county. Get out of jail and back to business (likely that got them there in the first place)...FOR FREE!!!!! They have nothing to worry about if they don’t show up for court, except the cops. So just don't get caught, right? But when they victimize the next tax payer (IF they are caught) they do it all over again! "Thanks judge! See you next month!"
And, even better, if they move across the county or state line, law enforcement can’t come after them. WHAT A DEAL! I know all this from talking to some friends in the legal biz, trust me...criminals know all the tricks! And they BRAG ABOUT IT.
Each and every one of us knows that our human nature dictates our instincts and actions. If there is no punishment for doing something wrong, that behavior will continue...and get worse. Political correctness and feeling sorry for someone making bad choices has gotten us to the place where public safety no longer is a consideration. Assaults, burglaries, stealing, stabbings, and shootings are dramatically on the rise, as proven in our own cities and towns.
History repeatedly goes through the cycle of going soft on criminals until the danger is so high only strict and harsh punishment can turn things around. Guess where we are on this cycle??? We have not seen the worst of the "criminals are victims" movement. And if our criminal justice system will not protect us, the public is left with no option except to protect itself. Do you want your son or daughter constantly conceal carrying "just in case" they stop at the wrong gas station at the wrong time? NOT ME. But this is the reality I am now facing.
Demand safety for you, your children, and the public. Demand consequences for offenders! That being said, the US Constitution guarantees a defendant/criminal the right to a bond (a monetary consequence), which offers them the ability to pay money to go back to their job and family until they can be prosecuted. These are given at the Judges discretion. This keeps jails from overcrowding, nonviolent offenders earning their wage, and our local families together.
Some things you may not know: A cash bond is financial promise to appear in court. But a surety bond (bail bond) GUARANTEES the court appearance of the offender. 1. Police do not have to use their limited resources chasing these criminals when they decide court didn't fit their schedule, and 2. The bail bondsman can go anywhere in the United States to return the defendant to JAIL at their expense, saving the city and county money....meaning SAVING US, THE TAX PAYERS, $$$$$'s. 3. The best part: surety bail bonds that are paid to the court GO TO THE LOCAL SCHOOL FUND here in Jasper county. You know those school bond tax increases we vote on? Seems like "get out of jail free" cards from the courts rob potential funds from our very own children's education and tax money out of our pockets. MY QUESTION: So why, just why, are the judges in Jasper county not punishing criminals with cash or surety bonds and instead letting them walk free without consequence?
"Get out of jail free" does not work, never has, and the public and victims suffer if there is no legal accountability and assurances.

WOW - guess I hit a nerve and pissed some people off  with last week's blog.  Here  is a fact for you - Indiana spends more on its jails than it does on education for its children.  Maybe if they spent all that money in teaching their children right from wrong they wouldn't have big ol jails. Oooops,They Did it Again: No Justice for Jasper County Victims

Back on May 2, 2018 I let you know about the saga of John Doe and Mr. Got Dad's Money -- the 70 year old man that Mr. Got Dad's Money turned around and came back to beat the crap out of and he was never charged.    I saw John Doe last weekend -- still wearing the bruises from that beat down AND here is something else Mr. Got Dad's Money should be real proud of -- he beat an elderly man who walks with cane.   At this point all I can say about the Prosecuting Attorney is God will take care of this in the end, hope you and Mr. Money can explain it then!  However, our APPOINTED Prosecuting Attorney will have another one to add to the list of "REALLY?"!   Mr. Landowner owns an empty lot across the street from Mr. Renter. More and more I am seeing bonds that are being issued by the judges as "10% cash required to the court".   Here are 4 just off the Jasper County Sheriff's Office roster: 1.  Cody Proffitt - 18AO-CR00761 - Stealing Controlled Substance -  D Felony $3,000 - 10% cash required 2.  Jesse Sprinkle - 17AO-CR01562-01 - 2nd/Assault - B Felony $15,000 - 10% cash required 3.  Darrell Towne - 18AO-CR00882 - Domestic Assault - E Felony $10,000 - 10% cash required 4.  Scott Troutman - 18AO-CR00490-01 - Attempted Burglary/Receive Stolen Prop/ Assault C Felony $35,000 - 10% cash required With these type bonds the defendant posts 10% of the bond with the court and gets a 90% discount for the rest.  Remember from past articles I have told you that when a defendant is on bond with a bondsman and takes off, they have to find him or pay the entire amount of the bond, 100% to...
