Fingerprints, Felonies & Facts

WOW - guess I hit a nerve and pissed some people off  with last week's blog.  Here is a fact for you - Indiana spends more on its jails than it does on education for its children.  Maybe if they spent all that money in teaching their children right from wrong they wouldn't have big ol jails.

Jail count Monday 3-26-18 - 266.

Did you know that the Joplin Municipal Court has a website that you can check charges and see if you have court and what date.  Great site.  So in trying to decide what to write about this week I typed in the name of my subject in the Joplin website and found out she has 3 last names.  Alma Louise Karr Sherrick Powers - and I probably don't have them in the correct order, but on with the story.

Case number 17AO-CR00985 was filed 7-20-17 and 7-28-17 for 2 counts of robbery, each one a B Felony. And the history goes like this:
8-9-17 Warrant Issued
8-14-17 Bond set - NO BOND
10-26-17 City of Oronogo filed STEALING charges
10-30-17 Warrant Served
11-2-17 Pre Trial Released
11-22-17 Appeared
12-13-17 Appeared
1-3-18 Appeared
1-23-18 Case number 18AO-CR00349 is filed for Receiving Stolen Property, D Felony
1-23-18 City of Oronogo serves their warrant
1-31-18 Appeared
2-28-18 Appeared
3-9-18 Motion to Revoke bond is made
3-13-18 motion granted and judge sets a $5,000 cash bond
3-15-18 Warrant Served
3-20-18 JUDGE RELEASES DEFENDANT ON HER OWN RECOGNIZANCES (OR'd)
Case number 18AO-CR00349 was filed on 1-23-18 for Receiving Stolen Property, D Felony
3-9-18 Warrant Issued
3-12-18 Bond amount set -- O.R. Book, fingerprint, release
3-15-18 Warrant Served
3-16-18 OR'd
Here we are again -- 2 counts of robbery and you are released free of charge. You get arrested on an Oronogo warrant and actually have to bond out of jail, meaning someone is responsible to make her go to court, and then you face Receiving Stolen Property charges and all you have to do is get booked in - get some ink on your fingertips for prints - and you walk out of jail free of charge.  So basically there are 3 FELONY CHARGES SHE HAS WALKED OUT OF THE COUNTY JAIL FREE OF CHARGE ON WITH NO KEEPER and 1 municipal misdemeanor charge that someone is responsible for her bond on.

Does something look like it's wrong to you in this picture???
Right now in this county you can commit a somewhat serious crime and get released free of charge to go rob and pillage again.  To say nothing of the fact that you may have broken some rule with the Pre Trial Release person (who really knows for sure?) by getting a second Felony charge while you were out free of charge on the first 2 Felony charges.  Oh but wait, I forgot, the criminal is the actual victim here right?

When I was raising my children and they did something wrong, if they didn't get corrected immediately and got away with it they knew they could get away with it time and again and constantly pushed the button trying to do so.  These are adults, I think?

  1. Larry Stout has recently started a new program for inmates with high and cash bonds to be eligible for OR... As long as its not violent crimes and they don't have past issues with failure to appears. Google the Larry Stout program in Jasper County. It will shed some light.
