Money that Belonged to Our Kids
More and more I am seeing bonds that are being issued by the judges as "10% cash required to the court". Here are 4 just off the Jasper County Sheriff's Office roster:
1. Cody Proffitt - 18AO-CR00761 - Stealing Controlled Substance - D Felony
$3,000 - 10% cash required
2. Jesse Sprinkle - 17AO-CR01562-01 - 2nd/Assault - B Felony
$15,000 - 10% cash required
3. Darrell Towne - 18AO-CR00882 - Domestic Assault - E Felony
$10,000 - 10% cash required
4. Scott Troutman - 18AO-CR00490-01 - Attempted Burglary/Receive Stolen Prop/ Assault C Felony
$35,000 - 10% cash required
With these type bonds the defendant posts 10% of the bond with the court and gets a 90% discount for the rest. Remember from past articles I have told you that when a defendant is on bond with a bondsman and takes off, they have to find him or pay the entire amount of the bond, 100% to the court which is directed to the school fund and then distributed to the Jasper County School District. Not so with a 10% cash required to the court.
For example, #3, Darrell Towne, would pay $1,000 to the court, never have to worry about the other $9,000, and walk out of the jail -- on a Domestic Assault charge. $9,000 is unsecured and not collectable. AND remember that there is no one specifically looking for him should he fail to appear, since this is a felony charge there is a better chance of him getting arrested if he is unlucky enough to get stopped for a traffic violation. If this was a misdemeanor charge he could move to Baxter Springs, KS and get stopped everyday by the police but never get arrested and returned to face this charge.
Now imagine what kind of public safety you have when hundreds/thousands of defendants with active warrants are living within the community and no one is actively looking for them. Is your elected judge concerned with the welfare of his constituents?
TUESDAY - AUGUST 7 - GO VOTE!
Good men and women have fought and died to give us that right. Between now and then I urge you to call the individuals running and ask them how they stand on Victims Rights and Safety where it concerns the 29th and 40th Judicial District - that would be Jasper and Newton County, respectively. My concern is with Jasper County, however I pray that Ms. Rhoades does NOT win the race for judge in Newton Co. She is a great attorney and that is where the buck stops! I question how she can be a judge when she is a partner in one law firm and married to an attorney - whole lot of conflict of interest going on there.
Rob O'Brian is NOT getting my vote - wasn't he responsible for the Wallace Benjjali disaster? Plus I haven't heard one advertisement that says why we should vote for him, I've only heard advertisements dishing his opponent.
BACK THE BLUE! Take Care of Each Other - our elected officials certainly are not.
HAPPY TRAILS!!!

It’s the same in Jasper county during my divorce proceedings with my Xwife had lawyer Nicole Carlton her daddy is a judge in the same 29th district judge Carlton. I had my divorce/ custody tried in the 29th court. I lost everything never heard anything from any of my witnesses on my X wife behavior or any of my prof of the lies and abuse our children suffered. Our judge was Holcomb it was a family favor the case was a shame and a disappointment that our justice system is so corrupt!! I’m now attempting to go back for round two !! So I can have the time me and my children deserve to have together and stop all of the corruption that was plastered over us because of their abuse of power!!
