Jasper County Jail Statistics that Would Choke a Horse

Let's talk about the Jasper County Jail. And let me start by saying I did not take time to double check my counting, so be aware if I am ever called into court concerning this particular week's blog article I will be asking for enough time to go back and double check my counting.

These numbers come from the Inmate Roster I printed off of the Jasper County Sheriff's web page dated March 14, 2018:

Current number of inmates - 266

Total number of charges - 437

Total Felony charges - 367

Total Misdemeanor charges - 52

Now, I tried to group like charges but some of these had no other group to go into in my pea brain:

Inmates on hold for U.S. Marshall's office - 4

Inmates on ICE holds 6

Inmates waiting transport to Missouri Department of Corrections - 17

Inmates being held for other counties to come get - 3

Inmates accused of Murder - 8

Inmates who have violated their Probation - 57

Inmates accused of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly - 7

Inmates who are Fugitives from Justice - 17

Inmates accused of crimes involving children - which would include:

Promote Child Porn, Child Abuse, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor,

Child Molestation, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Non-Support - 26

Inmates accused of "sex crimes" - which would include Sodomy,

Sexual Abuse, Rape, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender - 35

Inmates that have automobile charges - which would include DWI,

DWR/DWS, Speeding, Tamper with a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Yield

to Emergency Vehicle - 47

Inmates that have drug charges - which would include Possession of a

Controlled Substance, Delivery of Controlled Substance, Possession of

Marijuana, Distribution of a Controlled Substance - 54

Inmates that have firearms charges - which would include Stealing a

Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon,

Armed Criminal Action - 18

Inmates that have Domestic Assault and Assault charges - 33

Inmates that have what I would classify as lying charges - which would

include Making a False Declaration, Passing Bad Check, and Forgery - 10

Inmates charged with what I would classify as invading my privacy -

Stalking, Violating an Order of Protection, Kidnapping - 10

Inmates charged with theft - which would include Receiving Stolen

Property, Stealing Motor Vehicle, Burglary, Stealing, Robbery, and

Trafficking in Stolen ID's - 66

Inmates charged with Damage to Jail Property and Damage to Property - 3

Inmates charged with Failing to Obey the Judge - 2

Inmates charged with Resisting - 14

I was kind of shocked by the number of ICE holds, it seems very small for the area and the charges for those 6 are DWI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, Domestic Assault, Child Molestation and Rape.

The second thing that shocked me was there are only 52 Misdemeanor charges out of 437, and why in the heck is Child Molestation a Misdemeanor?????

For those of you who don't know - Fugitive From Justice simply put means they are accused of a crime in another state, there is an active extraditable warrant for their arrest, and Jasper County has had a close encounter with them and made the arrest.
