Around and Around They Go - Vacationing on Our Taxes
Tax Time! Man, how I hate taxes, going to be very interesting this year to say the least. I did take some time out of getting all that ready when I ran across Derek Slatton on casenet and thought some therapy writing an article might help.
It just amazes me how our 29th Judicial District simply hasn't got a clue -- the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing or do they just not care as long as that taxpayer paycheck keeps rolling in.
Mr. Slatton has 3 cases going on in 3 different courts.
3-11-17 In Newton County (17NW-CR00459) charged with misdemeanor DWI and Driving While Revoked, he was mailed a Criminal Summons to appear in court 5-16-17, he failed to appear, judge #1 issued a warrant with a $1,000 Code bond.
SIX MONTHS LATER
11-23-17 arrested in Joplin and charged with a misdemeanor DWI (17AP-CR01370). Judge #2 put a $2,500 surety bond on this, Mr. Slatton bonded on this case and the Newton County case. This case had a court date of 12-12-17 which he failed to appear.
1-1-18 charged with a felony Stealing (18AO-CR00002) and the bond was set at $800 cash.
1-2-18 failed to appear in Newton County, warrant issued with a $2,000 Code bond.
1-3-18 Mr. Slatton is arrested in Jasper County.
1-10-18 the judge releases him on the infamous pinkie promise or as the docket entry says "on his own recognizance" with a court date of 1-17-18.
1-17-18 failed to appear - warrant issued by judge #3 $500 CASH ONLY.
1-24-18 Mr. Slatton post bonds.
2-6-18 he failed to appear in Newton County and failed to appear in Jasper County for judge #2, judge #2 issues a warrant with $500 CASH ONLY.
3-16-18 judge #1 issues a warrant with $4.000 Code Bond.
8-24-18 all warrants are served and Mr. Slatton is in custody with Jasper County.
8-29-18 judge #3 amends the $500 CASH ONLY bond to a $1,500 Surety Bond.
9-5-18 evidently no bonding company would touch Mr. Slatton (wonder if they read all the docket entries and were smart enough to know Mr. Slatton DOES NOT GO TO COURT). Judge #3 amends his bond to $75.00 CASH ONLY.
9-18-18 Mr. Slatton has managed to post all the bonds, cash and code, and is released from all jails.
10-16-18 Mr. Slatton fails to appear in all 3 courts and has warrants with the following bonds:
judge #1 $8,000 Code,
judge #2 $5,000 Cash or Surety,
judge #3 $500 CASH ONLY.
As of this writing Mr. Slatton is still on vacation from the courts.
And where is MADD - or are they not even relevant anymore?
So last election, November 2018, only 40,649 registered voters out of 76,868 total registered voters actually got out and voted.
Of those judge #2 received 34,059 actual votes and 843 voters wrote in some other name. 5,747 voters did not even bother to put a mark of any kind in the slot.
Judge #3 received 34,214 actual votes and 839 voters wrote in some other name. 5,596 voters did not even bother to put a mark of any kind in the slot.
Prosecuting Attorney received 33,816 actual votes and 764 voters wrote in some other name. 6,069 voters did not even bother to put a mark of any kind in the slot.
It would be interesting to see who the write in names were.
Back The Blue - take care of each other out there, our elected officials certainly are not. Happy Trails.
