Elected Officials and the Criminals Who Love Them
Had a busy week and I feel like I have hit a brick wall. It has just been overwhelming to my brain this week, going through case.net, looking at things trying to decide what to write about.
It seems like this world is just going crazy.
I'm about to reference my religious upbringing, and I don't want any haters -- When I was a kid, 17-19 years old, I remember talking to a very good friend of mine who was raised in the same church, in fact her father converted my father. Anyway, we were discussing whether or not we felt at that time (50 years ago) if we would live long enough to see the second coming of Christ. Even at that young age both of us felt like the world was going nuts.
And I am still reeling from my accidental education from being in the court gallery when the judge was talking to the people in jail through video. The back and forth discussion with the prosecutor's office when bail was discussed was disgusting, not in the words they used, but in the way a decision was made as to whether or not to keep that person in jail, give him a bond, or to release him on his own recognizance (O.R.).
If he was charged with a misdemeanor and had no felony convictions he was "O.R.'d". Have you seen how many "Violation of an Order" charges are now misdemeanors? So say you have a protection order against your ex, he violates it and is taken to jail, the prosecutor's office decides it wasn't severe enough to be deemed a felony, charges him with a misdemeanor, he goes before the judge and is released O.R. and is free to violate the order again. What happens to the VICTIM? The prosecutor may not have thought that one incident was bad enough for a higher charge but does she(the prosecutor) know what has been going on in that house before the VICTIM got enough courage to finally press charges???
What happened to doing the right thing as opposed to the politically correct thing?
Everything is political. My humble opinion is as voters in Jasper County we need to replace the presiding commissioner Mr. John Bartosh who wants to empty the jail. Does that sound like he is concerned at all with his law abiding constituents?

Furthermore, we need to replace our current Jasper County Prosecutor Ms. Theresa Kinney who obviously has given orders to not oppose O.R. bonds if the charge is not a felony. Does that sound like she is even concerned with the law abiding VICTIM'S rights??
And it is also my personal opinion that Mr. Mike Roberts, attorney at law, should place his hat in the ring for the Jasper County Prosecutor. From what I see and hear he is more in tune with the VICTIM.
As far as presiding commissioner, at this point anyone who actually believes in the rule of law and has an opinion that the law abiding citizens of Jasper County should be listened to and taken care of would fit the bill.

Next week I hope to be back to full detective mode and out of this funk. In the meantime people, be safe out there and watch out for each other because our elected officials are more concerned with that cushy tax-paid salary they are bringing in. Boy that was sure uplifting - Happy Trails Till Then.
